  1. Thank you, Brian. Kudos to the black student activists at my institution, Dominican University, for this very achievement. One of the most memorable lines (in my view) from their protest on campus last semester was the claiming of the mandate of “preferential option for the poor” from Catholic social teaching for themselves. “We are the poor,” they said to the university culture, administration, faculty, staff and fellow students to powerful effect.
